Dr. Murphy’s current research portfolio has expanded into the new area of cardiovascular epigenetics and the role of lifestyle (exercise and mechano-transduction) on the cardiovascular compartment. Current projects in this field include working with the French (CNES) and European space agency (ESA) on the effect of space flight (microgravity and physical inactivity) on cardiovascular epigenetics, using platelets as a circulating biomarker (papers published and pending). This work has led to Dr. Murphy being elected as Vice-Chair for Epigenetic technology for the EU’s most successful COST action- EpiChemBio (CM1406)- http://epichembio.eu/. Dr. Murphy has been a visiting scientist to The Blood Research Institute, Milwaukee, USA (1998-1999), Max Planck Institute, Dresden, Germany (2004), and the University of Angers, France (2014-to date).
